sisters

my sister abby and i have had a unique relationship.
i'm the oldest and she is the 3rd born.
we have never seen eye to eye.
there are numerous stories that could be told - from both sides
it was probably 4 years or so ago that we finally began to build our relationship.

i remember two days before my wedding sitting in a nail salon waiting for my turn,
abby was on the other end of my phone in virginia
she was a nanny out east and we were coordinating times for me to pick her up at the airport.
we talked about the wedding and who knows what else.
i remember picking her up late at night.
the night before my wedding, all my sisters called into bed with me and we watched a movie.
she was there for my wedding.
prior to the reception she even ran to the grocery store to pick up more orange gerber daisies for the cake and wedding toss bouquet.

the following year during october her sweet kitty, molly was having some health issues.
i was drawn to her and wanted to be a support to her during that time.
she made some difficult decisions that month.
however, it seemed to be the start of a better relationship for us.

we even joined her on one of her hunting trips down to our grandpa's field.
{good 'ol depredation permits}
we coined the phrase "i hunt with my sister and shop with my brother"
trying something new that we were never raised around was a good bonding moment for us.

on january 25th ,2012 she met her husband russell.
two months later russell proposed to her.
july 14th they were married.

our bond has continued to grow since her wedding.
being the married two of the six kids right now allows us to bond even more.

i remember late october, mitch and i were in idaho for his grandma's passing
and we were settling in for the evening at his aunt's when i got a call from abby.
"remember how you asked us not to get pregnant while staying at your house..."
"yea...."
"well we are pregnant! no worries for your bed"

i had the opportunity to work along side her this past spring at the garden center
one more season before motherhood.
spending time planting along side her and spending breaks feeling baby elena move around....
it was a season i wouldn't trade for anything.

june 9th was the day abby became a mommy.
i was able to join her a half hour after elena's arrival
and take some beautiful photographs of that special day.

two weeks later they moved to arizona.

in july, we had a family reunion
abby and russell were able to attend
that visit came with a special request from mitch and i...
they asked us to be elena's godparents.
i feel so grateful and privileged to be trusted with abby's daughter.

during october, abby spent two weeks with us.
pumpkinland wouldn't have been the same without her
and helping tend to elena was most special.
i learned that i could manage being the store manager and still tend to a baby.
this visit also came with another special request.

abby decided it was time to receive her endowments at our lds temple.
when going through for the first time the one receiving them has the opportunity to have a family member be their escort.
my mother was my escort when i received my endowments.
abby asked me to be her escort and accompany her on her special day.
once again i was honored and grateful for the privilege.

on november 16th, i was able to join abby at the las vegas lds temple for her special day.
it was just abby, russell and i.
words can't describe my experience with her at the temple.
and i can only begin to grasp the importance of being with our families for all of eternity.

{mitch, nanna and kade (her soon to be) spent the morning on the las vegas strip}

abby.... thank you for allowing me to be with you on your special day.

i look forward to our relationship growing as time continues and am grateful for the relationship we share now. i love you lady.

seedlings and sandwiches

Untitled

our primary children are turning eight this year and will be getting baptized. they truly are my most favorite children and teaching them is my favorite calling yet. as an example for teaching we planting a tomato seed with them and will show them the progress of growth as time passes. we are trying to help them grasp the concept of 'planting a seed of faith and watching it grow'. it has been very exciting for them to see the growth of the seedling so far. they even asked to help plant it once it's ready to transplant outside. i'm thinking their plant will make it's home in the front yard, that way they can walk by and see the progress during the summer.

Untitled

my seedlings are growing. i absolutely love checking in on them throughout the day and seeing their progress. i can't wait til every one makes their presence seen. saturday my second batch of seeds arrived from baker creek heirloom seeds.  hopefully i'll get them planted in the next day or two. i'm trying two new plants - ground husk tomatoes and litchi tomatoes.

Untitled

one of the best parts of bed time is the snowball sandwich. without fail jake and cezar will curl up on either side of me for snuggles before bed.

on another exciting note.... we bought me a darling bike this weekend!! i picked out a cruiser with a big comfy seat, a basket on the front and i can't wait to take it out for a ride! alyson {joe's finance} has one too and we are eager for the spring weather so we can go on bike riding adventures. the guys will most likely spend their time playing video games... {lame}. i really am super excited to finally have a bike.

there is something absolutely charming about drinking from a pint jar. i'm treating myself to a little pepsi this afternoon. it's been awhile.... but since it's the end of july and this week is going to be fabulous {hello 3 days of work!} today called for a treat.

i'm beyond proud of my hubby. friday night he got the crazy inclination that he needed to build us a big gate for our back yard. {granted that it will come in handy} so our lovely friday evening turned into errands.... saturday i headed to work and left mitch to his own devices for the day. he's never really built anything by himself {if i'm correct} so i wondered how it would turn out. i had confidence in him though. mitch has really showed me how handy he can be since becoming a home owner. a trip with him to the hardware store on my lunch break, a little lunch and back to work we both went. i have to give mitch serious props for this project. he did a fabulous job and from scratch no less. no plans or anything. i have a feeling there is more behind the sudden gate building then he leads onto.... {four wheeler anyone?}

yesterday was a bad day for me health wise. i managed to sleep in some, love on the boys, eat some breakfast and keep a headache at bay. mitch was in charge of teaching our primary class but i helped out with a story and activity. i'm very grateful for the opportunity i have to serve in a calling with my spouse. it's by far the best way to serve i've decided. church was wonderful and our class went well. unfortunately i felt like my blood sugar was incredibly low since i felt super shaky. after church we came home and i snacked a bit and mitch was a sweetheart and encouraged my nap - for as long as i wanted. i felt slightly better when woke up after 5..... i made us a super delicious cookie bar for a treat and then crashed on the couch. and that is where i spent the rest of the evening. i barely managed the energy to cook dinner but glad i did. it's funny how bad health days sneak up behind you and bite ya hard.

Sundays are for family time

After partying it up with our friends last night and going to bed around 11:30 {oh my gosh it was insane late for me}, we slept in super late this morning. I crawled out of bed after 10. I wasn't in the best of moods to begin with. But after a bowl of cereal, my handful of pills and some caffeine I managed to perk up a little bit.

We are currently subbing Sunbeams in church while we wait for our CTR6 class {the current teachers are moving soon}. The lesson was on being thankful for our smell and taste. This is the 3rd Sunbeams class Mitch has taught. He had Sunbeams when he got home from his mission, when we first got married and now we are sub in teachers. Luckily he has the hang of teaching down. For class we brought snack in paper bags and we tried to see if they could guess what was in the bags by smell and then by taste. Chocolate chips, popcorn and salt and vinegar chips. Class today went better than last week. And I'm grateful it will only be for a few weeks. We are looking forward to older children.

Mitch had the brilliant idea of going on a hike this afternoon. Jake and Cezar's energy level was too high for a enjoyable day at home. Plus Jake was on a naughty streak. We filled our camelbaks, harnessed the boys and headed up to grove creek. It has turned out to be our go to hike. {we have yet to make it to the falls.} It was a gorgeous day, perfect temperatures and we got to work on breaking in our new shoes for the Subway next month. I got in the river with the boys at one point. They turned into a muddy mess and were good sports about it. Mitch however was unimpressed with it. Round trip we hiked about 3.5 miles. Jake and Cezar were exhausted and we are glad we made it back to the car before we had to carry Jake. Once home we sprayed them off in the back yard and then had nap time. I'm not used to having such relaxed {exhausted} boys :) we should make the hike a daily habit.

somedays you just want to push snooze

I knew it was going to be one of those days when Mitch and I both hit our snooze button.

One of those days

Cracking open a pepsi as I came back upstairs after letting the boys out. Looking at my bathroom counter and couldn't resist documenting that moment. It looks like how I feel. Ha.

Work. Well work was work. I felt sluggish all day.

Healthy lunch

There is nothing better than a fresh flavorful salad for lunch with a perfectly ripe avocado. {I love avocados!!}

4 o'clock finally came. Homeward bound.

One of those days

I was greeted by last nights kitchen mess. {I actually cooked last night, but then we both ran out the door. Me to my soon to be new cousin - Lexi's bridal shower. Mitch for a guy's night} It's been a very long time since we've had dishes sitting in our sink. Don't worry I clean it up.

You know one of the best parts of summer?!! It's totally okay to grab a nice big ice cream cone for dinner. Only once in a blue moon ya know. Tonight we definitely enjoyed some cones from Maceys. Hooray for $1 cones!! :)

We both had church meetings to attend. Mitch YM and I had my primary meeting. Grateful mine was kept to an hour.

Making my way home for the night.

Homeward bound once again.
Grateful to spend the rest of the evening at home.

One of those days.

It was a long week FULL of work.

This morning my body said it had enough. I really struggled with getting out of bed. I could've laid in bed all day... I finally crawled outta bed to see that Mitch was miserable on the couch downstairs. Poor Mitch, his tummy is acting up again. He wasn't going to make it to church and I was sure tempted to make it a sick day for both of us. Yet I managed to get ready and make it to primary. Brittany had the flu so the rest of us decided it would be good to cancel the meeting with the stake primary presidency. I was relieved.

Coming home, all I wanted was to crawl back in bed for the day. Mitch and I attempted cooking. It was rather comical... The milk was sour, I burnt the bacon horribly, Mitch's sausage was nasty {not that I like any kind of sausage. Lol} so the boys got spoiled. We had cracked eggs for German pancakes, so mitch made brownies. Luckily it turn out unlike anything else had. I gave up on cooking and crawled Back in bed. We watched Harry Potter 7.1. It was good. And then I slept for about 3 hours. Sweet Jake kept me company.

Everyone has one of these kinda days... Right? Exhaustion and things just not working?

Agenda for this coming week
1: grocery shopping
2: getting caught up on rest
3: accomplishing my to do list early I'm the week

Catch up

I was finally able to enjoy some sunshine and warmth on my face last night. I dropped some gorgeous flowers off at Elizabeth's and planted some. Its looking good, but we could all benefit from some sun!!

Mitch had a YM camp-out. He wasn't looking forward to it... The weather was not promising. The sun came out though so I hope they had a good time. They back packed... Mitch's pack cracked me up. I think we need to invest in a backpacking sleeping bag lol.

So it was just me and the boys last night :) I tucked a few plants into the ground, snacked for dinner and watched my shows. It was a good evening. I couldn't get Jake to sleep with me, he slept by the door. Such a good protector :)

My morning was quiet, it was weird with mitch gone. I miss him. The Boys were good. Super tired. Quick stop for liquid energy {rockstar} and work by 8:20.

everyone is making up for lost time this week... Due to continual rain. Wish I was making up lost time in my yard!! But I'm here at work instead.

Happy sunny day

{Wednesday}

What a beautiful day!!! I absolutely loved the sun being out!!

Tuesday Abby and I spent time together enjoying her Christmas gift - a 'date' with us. We went to see Water for Elephants. It was incredible!! Mitch passed, he didn't want to see it so we went to the early show while he was at work. :) plus we got some smart cookies .... Yummy!! We had a blast :)

Work was good yesterday. Got lots of Containers planted. Watering takes a lot longer then it did a month ago. I bailed early... I wanted some time in my yard :) mowed the lawn, took out some perennials I didn't want and put in new ones :) trimmed back ALL the old dead growth on my Russian sage... Huge improvement :) can wait for new growth.

Mitch got a calling. YM 2nd counselor {decons} I laughed. Lol. He'll do a good job.

We started to go tanning. I love Palm
beach tan!! They are awesome :) very nice staff.

It was a good day.
Hope Thursday is even better!!

There's an app for that..

What a crazy fun weekend.

Saturday morning: 8:30 Millers training meeting. They have some awesome products. Four hours later... Clocking out, shopping for my side job and hurrying home to grab gloves before heading over to plant for the job. Savannah came with to help. Luckily we missed any threat of rain. It's looking really good with just the few additions :)

Afterwards we headed out to shop and go out to dinner. {it was Prom after all} I bought new running shoes and a running outfit. It's cute. It makes me eager to get out and start jogging. The boys will love it and hopefully I'll be able to slim down {I realized I ended up putting on weight with birth control... Most I've ever weighed!! frown} PLUS I found a running app :) it'll help me track mileage and whatnots {iMapMyRun , you should friend me dannylynn}

Dinner at Chilis. YUM. Smart cookie- no lemony love for me this time :( we got the last 2 one for nanna and one for mom {our contribution to Easter dinner lol}. Target. Movie - Hanna. It was a fabulous evening.

{I love all the photo apps ;) lots of awesomeness}

Primary today. It's a definite change of pace. I think I'll be going home with a headache for the next few weeks. Big change in noise level. I was very impressed with senior primary. Great kids.

Happy Easter

{Finally}

It's MY weekend :)

I survived my insane, up and down week.

Yesterday I bailed half day, I need to go home and take an afternoon for myself.

This morning was MUCH better! Even with the lousy weather it was a great day! I love the new girls already! They fit in well with our existing crew :) I got a lot done! Oh it feels good. I love having good days.

{a few pictures from today}

I got a church calling....

{I told Mitch I'm not afraid of saying no... Don't worry I said yes THIS time lol}

I'll be the primary secretary.

{my weekend}

Painting adventure

I had a wonderful weekend!! I was able to squeeze another Saturday off in :) {won't be happening again... any time soon. sigh} But it was pretty great! Mitch owed me a can of paint for my office. So 10 am sharp.... I finally woke him up with the help of the boys. Cezar loves his good mornings! He can't wait until he's allowed into the bedroom, helped up on the bed {we are trying to teach him how to jump on the bed... he's so small. lol} and then smothers you with kisses and sits pretty much on top of your head. It's pretty adorable and charming. Hopefully he doesn't grow much more :) Finally I'm able to drag Mitch out of the house and on the way to Home Depot. They had the perfect color of paint. Cozumel Teal/Blue. I LOVE IT!!! We also checked out the grand opening of Hobby Lobby in AF. We've never been. I fell in love with a beautiful white decorative frame.... I think I need to go back and get it :) It'll match my office. Then we headed home to pick up the 'Hero' cake for Sanna and the finished perennial labels for our Spanish ladies. Plus we were picking up Nanna from work to hang out with us for the afternoon.

We were able to see my grandparents new home {and are SO relieved with the saving of the floor upstairs. ugly linoleum} and seeing the plans for the fireplace and hardware for the cabinets. It's going to be pretty sweet when finished. {Super glad I'll be spending my time in the greenhouse at the store during the move!! Have fun other family members lol.}

For lunch we decided to try out Dickey's BBQ in AF. We are all in LOVE with it!! It's a inexpensive Good Wood. We will definitely be going back!! Then Nanna and Mitch decided we need a cookie run to Smart Cookie. They have the BEST Lemon Cookies and Sugar Cookies and pretty much any cookie is amazing there!!

FINALLY we made it back to the house so I could pop open my paint can and bust out my paint skills. Nanna and I made good progress. Even with her helping Mitch with the attempt to switch out our bathroom switches for cooler ones. {no success in the end... but the switches in the bathroom still work.... the hall light not so much} It was a good day.

PS I really honestly hate taping to paint! I am so cool.... I had edge everything!!
It's pretty amazing.

We also picked up a couple cases of bottled water. I feel the need to be prepared in case of an emergency or a disaster. It's a start. And we took on the task of cleaning out our pantries {we turned our coat closet into more pantry space} and getting rid of the old stuff and organizing it. On the up side we also have a better idea of what we have and need to get. It felt SO good!! I wanna open up my pantry doors every time I walk by :) so I can admire my work. lol. I'm so grateful we were both raised with parents who know the importance of storage and having things on hand!! One step at a time. We feel confident we could easily last a week if not a few more. {everything might not taste incredible but we'd be fine :) lol} We have more things planned for storage and it makes me happy!! {See Mom I did learn something from you ;) }

This afternoon... Cezar made progress in jumping on the bed by himself :) Proud mommy moment for me. lol. I hope he continues to remember. He seems to forget how to jump as silly as it seems. I love my boys. They make me so happy and I love spending time as a little family curled up in bed watching Harry Potter :)
{Someday we'll add human babies to the mix... I promise Moms ;) }
I was also successful... in cooking corned beef and potatoes in honor of st. patties day this week. I feel so cool when I'm successful in cooking meals that always seemed like it was a mommy's job to make. YEA. Like the one time I cooked a thanksgiving turkey by myself and had Mitch's parents over. It was yummy!! :)
AND I made appointments for visiting teaching tonight. I feel very accomplished and look forward to seeing my ladies this week. I'm even giving the lesson. :)
Slowly but surely I'm making one step at a time and making progress every day :)
How was your weekend??? Please tell.

{Girls just want to have fun}

Girl's just want to have fun

For Christmas Mitch and I gave my sisters a coupon for one sleepover + movie.
Mitch works late now, so I had a girl's night with Hope! I worked til 5 on Friday and then opened at 9 on Saturday. It was short but sweet!!! I made sure to pick up Mega Mind from Redbox that morning. And on our way home that evening we stopped at the grocery store for some treats and root beer to go with pizza!!! YUMMY :) Once home we took care of the boys and then put our movie in. Mitch had dinner at 8 and wanted to have pizza with us. So we had popcorn and treats for a snack. We also painted her nails a pretty lilac color! {I loved it! It was one of my Christmas gifts from Mitch - that will be my next toe color!!} After the movie we rushed to go pick up our pizza to be back in time for dinner with Mitch. Once Mitch left, we played with the puppies and watched some TV too. Plus some tea to top the evening off. In the morning we had breakfast and I did dishes before we left. It was a lot of fun and I hope Hope had a blast as well!!

Snuggles from my little one

Cezar is my little lap buddy lately. Every evening I come home he makes sure he gets some snuggs from me. Jake has been a sweet pea as well!! However we switched Cezar's food with out gradually getting him used to it.... oh golly what a mess!!! I'm so grateful that Jake does ALL his business outside!! I hope Cezar gets everything back on track!! {YUCK} Saturday afternoon Cezar had another vet visit. He is only 9.2lbs! Holy moly what a tiny little guy! Jake was at least 15 lbs at the same age!! Plus his adult coat is coming in.... I love it!!

Onset of spring... warm + cold

This is a matter of days.... seriously! I had beautiful warming days, full of sunshine!! And then we got snow again! But look on the bright side.... MARCH is only 2 days away!!! I can't wait for March!! Its a good good month!!! *What's your favorite month??*

So you know how Mitch agreed that we would pray in church today? .... Yea.... I couldn't do it. I had a panic attack yesterday. I guess I'm not exactly the bravest or most out going people after all. I appreciate the counselor for understanding when I called yesterday! I was seriously petrified at the thought of it, especially as Sunday got closer. Sigh. But Mitch did give a wonderful pray for both of us :) ** are you scared of praying or speaking in public??*

I'm in a 'nesting' mood! We've been in our home for 6 almost 7 months now, and I'm finally having the urge to finish painting, hanging pictures, decorating, maybe repainting our dresser {she needs some lovin}. Plus the yard is calling out for some attention as well! Mitch and I have been taking about taking out our tree house that has aspens growing in and through it, fencing off the garden so the dogs can't get into it, putting in a nice raised flower bed in the other corner.... Oh the projects we are dreaming off. But specifically I'm dreaming of teal paint for my office plus new light fixtures for the office plus the master. We watch like 3 hours of DIY network TV today. Boy did it get our minds thinking off all the things we COULD do. we'll see how far we get in the next month or so!!

We had dinner with his parents this evening. It was lovely!! I enjoy spending time with them! Mitch's schedule has been so crazy that its hard to spend all the time we want to with family. Thanks Mom and Dad for such a delicious dinner!! PLUS they are so sweet and thoughtful that they had Peeps for me when we got there! {It's like my all time easter candy favorite!!!} They are pretty much amazing!!

**How was your weekend??**

A cold morning + some thoughts

Yesterday morning was unbelievable!! It went a little like this:
6:30 - coughing and trying to breath
being sick is never fun
trying to get comfy....
I get up to go to the bathroom in hopes of finding some relief in my nose
Go grab some asprin, hoping that it will help relieve the aches in my body
6:40 - I crawl back into bed, still trying to get comfy
mitch finally asks what time it is.... then ask me to get out of bed
apparently I was waking him
I didn't.
I needed a little more sleep before I started my day.
I dosed off and was happy that I woke to my alarm.
7:40 - got up and dressed for my day
let the boys outside
fed them
sat down at the computer
8:25 - kissed Mitch goodbye
{We have different schedules now}
put the boys back in their beds
grabbed breakfast and lunch
8:35 - pulled out of my driveway
HOLY MOLY
it was 55 degrees outside!!!
It was as though spring had arrived during the night!
The sun was shinning, the sun was warm
Boy did it make my heart sing :)

8:50 - get to work, open up
Sanna gets there and gets me up to speed with everything
I worked in the greenhouse.... in the dirt... I loved the warmth in there!!
There is something special about spring....
I wish the beautiful weather stayed
the afternoon got cloudy and windy and chilly.

After work I came home and enjoyed 'me' time
fed the boys and hung out with them.
7 pm - I went visiting teaching.
Its been years since I've visit taught. I was nervous, plus I still don't know many in my ward.
It was good though.
The lord really knows what we all need
and I needed a lesson in sisterhood and service.
I left humbled.
8 - Mitch came home for dinner before he finished out his shift.
I enjoyed seeing him :) It made me happy.
The weather was really yucky by then!
snow, wind, ice, freezing

- This morning-
6:40 - woke up having troubles breathing and getting comfy again.
Golly its worse than an alarm clock.
Jake was sleeping with us
{He's my new buddy}
I'm grateful he was quiet and settled back down
Bathroom, lots of nose blowing, nothing...
Tried falling back asleep
7 - finally got up, hoping Mitch would be able to get more rest
Its not nearly as nice out side this morning
Its cold and there is WHITE stuff on the ground again.

But today is Thursday!!
Do you know what that means?!!
ALL of my favorite shows are on tonight!!
HOORAY
CSI Vegas, Bones, Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice!!
Jake and Cezar have no complaints about them either ;)

{What was your day?}
{What is your favorite part about thursday?}
{Are you ready for spring?}

Favorite part of January

The one thing we look forward to most in January is the Car show at the South Town Expo Center!!! We abosolutely love it! It is so much fun looking at all the new models and dreaming of all the cars we'd love to own some day. I especially enjoyed it this year because we've been talking about what would be my next car. I'm wanting an SUV and we decided that the new Extera by Nissan is a perfect fit for us :) Oh the fun of day dreaming!

This morning I woke up with the most head splitting headache :( I could barely get out of bed. However, we were good and made it to sacrament. It was ward conference and I really enjoyed the speakers. My favorite was learning to listen to the Holy Ghost. Unfortunately that was all I could do. {The screaming children were murder for my head} So we came home and I went to sleep. I woke up to Mitch cooking us lunch :) I have the sweetest, most amazing husband ever! He has even taken upon himself to wash all the laundry today! Luckily my headache faded through the afternoon.

Now I'm attempting to keep up at my goals for the year and am cooking dinner. I'm making a Spaghetti with garlic, onions and bacon :) Sounds delicious! It smells wonderful so far, I'm hoping it tastes just as amazing. If it does... I'll pass the recipe on.
